Final Film

EVALUATION: Question 6)

PREZI - EVALUATION QUESTION 6

WAS ORIGINALLY A POWTOON BUT I COULD NOT UPLOAD TO BLOGGER SO I HAD TO SWITCH IT ONTO A PREZI.

EVALUATION: Question 5)

Essay:

How did you attract/address your audience?

The most important way to attract audience is to make the product presentable, something that will attract an audience. The style of our films title credits was one we thought could be eye-catching. We noticed that when watching the beginning of a film, the audience doesn't really focus on the title credits unless they are brightly colored or funky (different type of font- not from the usual.)

The way we were trying to present that characters, meant that we had to focus of making the mise-en-scene to their personalities, this meant that for the location and settings, when we were filming in a bedroom, we made sure to make it look a certain way, which meant having to maybe move things around, add in props such as flowers or video game controllers, to make the character fit in with the scene.
A long with the locations, we tried to make part of it a bit of a cliche, meaning when we had the costumes for our 'nerds' we had one with a batman jumper and another with a superman jumper. This was not on purpose, it actually came out in our favor, however it helps the audience to understand that they are most likely the least popular and maybe even make them laugh a bit because two best friends who wear similar clothing has always been something that makes people laugh.

In regards to the sound for the opening sequence, we thought that a song that would have more of an up-beat, energetic sound would fit in with the movie. This is because, the music of nowadays tends to be very upbeat, fast and making the audience listen to something they will most likely like, means they will probably end up watching through the whole thing. It's about capturing the audience right from the beginning.

The film name is something that is VERY urban. It mostly contains slang words such as 'TBH' and 'UR'. These are words that we know for a fact that teenagers nowadays use to talk to friends. Having the title in a way that the teens might like means they easily understand and feel like they might relate to them.

ROUGHTCUT FEEDBACK

After making 3 roughtcuts we had feedback each time we thought we had finished. The feedback was however, brilliant, it helped us see clearly what we needed to do, what needed to be changed or added into our opening sequence.
Not only did it benefit us, but if also helped the audience as receiving the feedback meant that we could have the possibility to make it better for the audiences view. Changed such as the font of the title credits or the type of soundtracks we used. All the feedback we got was used.

AUDIENCE

In order to get as many viewers as possible, we reached out to them in as many ways as we could. The best way we could think of was one that we were pretty sure everyone in the age range we were aiming for had - some type of social network.
The first thing I made was a Twitter page @Candi_group9 . The page included pictures with our daily behind the scenes activity and even pictures of when were on set filming and even re-filming.
We had our friends follow from our personal Twitter accounts and got the word spreading on Group 9's production.
The second thing we did is after the final opening sequence was done, we uploaded it onto Youtube where we know for a fact people will see, the YouTube channel, however, the video that is up is one that has annotations added to it
I dont think our film have attracted any other audience than the one we planned it out for, this is because it related more to the audience between 15-25 (GOV Statistics for High School Drama)

EVALUATION: Question 4)

The main audience that 'TBH UR NOT ALL THAT' was aimed for, were for teenagers or mostly people within 13-20.
Teen films were mostly made for people that were in their teenage times however, nowadays, even people who are 25 are still watching teen films, mostly because they feel like they might still relate to what goes on in the movie.

With the Camtasia video, it shows a profile of someone who is 20, male, and has heard about the movie 'Tbh Ur Not All That' and is planning to check it out.

This shows that even though the target audience was aimed for people much younger, there are still people in their adult life that will watch a teen film such as this one.

Similar movies that will relate to Tbh Ur Not All That, is Mean Girls.
The film is a teen film, but because of the humour and events that go on, it attracted more older people, this is because it's more likely that it related to them.

The audience range we were aiming for in our film was mostly the range that is aimed at any High School Drama 15-25 (according to the YOUGOV statistics)

Blogging Health Check 3

After reviewing my progress on what my teachers have said on my work I got a lot of positive feedback but most concerns were:

- keep up to date with and complete all tasks on the blogging checklist and continue to develops use of ICT apps to present your work
- attend workshops to keep up to date with blogging
- attend workshops in general

These were most of the same aims that I had said back to me after the first health check. I realise that even though I am blogging, I do not blog on a daily basis, which I am supposed to be doing.
This is something that will definitely put me behind and most probably will make me lose marks I'm coursework.

This is something I have now become serious about and want to make sure that I get a good feedback  when it comes to reviewing my progress once again.

28) Media text influences

Also, When looking at all her movies that have different ways to present their title sequences, two that especially had me interested was ' 10 Things I hate about you' this is because I felt like it fit perfectly with the idea we had for our video, it was roughly the same concept.

Another one that we thought we could also relate to was 'Mean Girls'. Specifically the title sequence, where we are instantly presented with the characters, this was one idea that we wanted to include, having the audience presented with the main characters straight away.

Also, the way the title has been created, you are instantly attracted to the word 'mean' because of how big and bold it is, this was another idea we were influenced by.

Editing

After other members of group 9 had also edited, I also gave my part, I added some match cuts into the movie and also created the ident for the production company names.
In order to make the title sequence shorter, I also helped to cut some clips down in order to give space for anything else that might have been needed.

24) Fonts/Typeface

When working with motion, I got the opportunity to chose any font I thought would go with the film.

The original idea, was to have the names of the characters in bold, the names and titles of the people who helped make the movie in a different more smaller font and the title of thr film in a big bold font that would stand out

For the characters names, my idea for the font would be:

My idea for the job title and name of workers would be:

And last but not least, the font for my title:

18) Motion

After having a brief introduction on how to use motion, I got a chance to create some title credits for my self.
I thought that it would be quite simple but after having a go, I found it to be actually quite difficult but I then figured it out and created something.
When you have opened Motion, you select the 'new project' option and you have a blank screen where you can begin.

After this, you can see on the side, a selection of things, in this case I selected the 'library' option which already had some designs on there, which I could use.

After that, I dragged the design I wanted, onto the blank screen.

The option of 'at' at the top left of the screen means that you can create a text box anywhere you want, to put in anything you wish for your title sequence to say.

Feedback for Storyboard

We got feedback from our teacher and peers, they said that the storyboard was looking good and it was helpful for us so we could understand which shots were next etc. However they wanted us to elaborate on it and finish it off and add more scenes to make it more detailed. If we had more time we would of done an animated storyboard and showed everyone exactly where we wanted it to be however we didn't want to use our filming time on that and decided to stick with a paper one.

They wanted us to be more detailed and show every single angle, for example we used over the shoulder shots and establishing shots and our teacher wanted this to be more clear on our storyboard although we had a rough idea within the group our teacher and peers didn't understand some bits as they weren't drawn or labelled clearly.

ROUGHCUT 2 Feedback (teacher and peers)

After viewing our second rough cut, we received feedback from peers. We found that people generally said they like the layout of the title sequence. They said they liked how we showed that there are 4 different characters. And how each had a different method of getting ready. Our teacher told us she likes the continuity of the scene and how we represented the characters (for example, the 'popular' kids are both wearing black with leather jackets while the 'geeks' are wearing superhero jumpers).

However, at this point we still had to add the transitions which would make our title sequence seem more seamless and it would just flow better. Peers also commented on the fact that two characters are doing similar actions (closing the fridge and fixing their hair) if we edited in a match cut, the sequence would look better.

Another thing we lacked was that we still have to add titles to our sequence. This will include the actors names and the producers/directors names. It will also include the most important, which is the film title.

We also have no sound. This makes our title sequence seem longer than it actually is. We have a few tracks in mind which could work with our final edit, all we need to do is add it onto Final Cut Pro.

Our final thing we need to do is to produce two different idents to place at the start of the sequence. This alerts the audience who the production and distribution companies are.

These were all little changes that we can improve on within a couple hours, we are very close to having our final piece ready.

Music

We decided to use a track from Bensound:

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/happy-rock

We will be using this track from Bensound who has a creative commons license.
We give them all credit for their music as we did not add anything to it.
We decided to use this track because we think that it goes well with our title sequence it's also a high school drama and from the high school drama's that we were influenced by they use the same type of music. Since our scenes are quick we wanted something upbeat so that it would flow through nicely.

We were influenced by Devil Wears Prada, we wanted to use the song suddenly I see however this was copyrighted and we tried to find a track with a similar beat. We then realized that using a track without lyrics might be better because in 'Suddenly I see' it's talking about a girl where as there's a male included in our title sequence
